This one went through more than a few rough patches. Here’s a few in progress shots 

Preferring a more painterly experience, I use very few layers. This allows me to blend with the brushes anywhere at any given moment. I’ve also found the live oil brushes react better to this method.

There are only two layers seen here. The background color and the drawing layer.
